One 11-year-old girl from Ohio is putting her allowance to good use.
After a police dog named Jethro was killed in a police shootout during a response to a burglary, letters of condolences and sympathy cards flooded the Canton Police Department. One letter in particular stood out and warmed the hearts of the officers.
11-year-old Allison wrote in and told the department that she wanted to donate her allowance to the Canton Police Department’s K-9 unit for bulletproof vests.

“I sorry about Jethro,” she wrote. “So here is my allowance for the bulletproof vests. God bless you and the dogs.”
According to Today, Jethro’s handler, Ryan Davis, was very “touched by the gesture.”
“Officer Davis has a soft spot in his heart for kids, as we all do, and when he and his family opened this particular letter it just hit home,” K-9 Canton Police Officer Eric Stanbro told Today.
Thanks to Allison and an online fundraiser, more than $38,000 has been donated to buy the dog’s bulletproof vest.
“The outpouring of support has been amazing and mind-blowing,” Stanbro told Today. “Letters and artwork from all over the world. The vests have been funded and we are going through the process of measuring each dog for the company so each vest is custom made to fit.”
The news comes after CNN news anchor, Anderson Cooper, was lauded for providing bulletproof vests to an entire Virginia K-9 unit when he learned a dog was tragically killed in an incident there.
